Figs are one of the very first plants to be cultivated by humans. They have been documented throughout history as a food source for over 11,000 years. This variety has a long neck on and is said to resemble the “Collar of a Lady” (Col de Senora in Spanish) when high collars and expensive jewelled necklaces were in fashion in French royalty. When Black Figs are blended with savoury ingredients, such as cocoa, salt or spices, figs can produce a “meaty” flavour that has a smoky, almost steak-like aroma and taste. Black figs can be also used in salads combined with nuts and cheese.
Perfect to be eaten raw, in a salad in small pieces, or with goat cheese!
