Green beans, also known as French beans or string beans, originated in Central and South-America (Mexico and Peru). They have been cultivated for the past 7000 years and are distributed in more than 130 varieties different in taste as much as in color and size of pods.
French beans can easily and tastefully be paired with butter, garlic, mushrooms, shallots and toasted almonds. They need to be cooked before consumption. Steaming, boiling, frying and baking are usual cooking ways to prepare dishes made of green beans.
