Known as the Japanese medlar or Pipa in China, Loquat originated in China before being introduced more than 1,000 years ago in Japan by scholars visiting the Tang Dynasty. Loquat is present in South and Central Europe as well as in remote islands like Hawai or Réunion where it is called Bibasse.
