Royal Gala apple variety was created in 1930 in New Zealand. Considered old-fashioned in the 70s in Western Europe, it came back to light in the 2000s. In France it is the second most cultivated apple variety. Rather small, covered with orange-pink to red vertical stripes, the variety resists to shocks despite its thin skin. Very sweet, slightly acidic with a touch of bitterness, it is also appreciated for being firm, juicy and tonic.
