Apple, Akane from France (Organic)

With its bright red skin and fresh, lively character, the organic Akane apple is one of the earliest apples of the French season. Originally developed in Japan, this variety is now cultivated in French orchards, where it is appreciated for its attractive colour, fine texture and naturally balanced flavour. Its small to medium size and slightly flattened shape give it a distinctive appearance, while the thin skin is often almost entirely covered in vivid red.

Beneath the skin, Akane has fine, white and remarkably crisp flesh with plenty of juice. Its flavour combines a refreshing acidity with gentle sweetness and delicate fruity notes, sometimes reminiscent of strawberry and flowers. Delicious eaten fresh, it is particularly enjoyable when freshly harvested, but it can also be sliced into salads, pressed into juice or used in summer desserts and compotes.
