Custard Apples (or Cherimoya as named by the Inca people) are native to the Andean valleys of Peru, Ecuador, and Colombia. They were introduced in Spain in the 18th century.
Round or heart-shaped with a velvety, thin skin that is light green in colour, the fruit displays a white pulp with a mild flavour likened to a blend of banana, vanilla, mango, papaya, pineapple and coconut. The refreshing texture is soft, smooth and melting almost custard-like. The flesh is studded with large, black, inedible seeds.
