Asparagus is native to most of Europe, Northern Africa and Western Asia. Historically it was found growing in coastal marine regions and prefers sandy weedless soils. This vegetable has been cultivated and eaten as a medicinal plant in Egypt for over 2,000 years. The white asparagus is grown at a dark environment, both underground or well covered. The white spear has a slightly milder flavour compared to the green one.
