This organic wine perpetuates a millenial tradition, indeed the birthplace of Cabernet Franc is Bourgueil, producing wine out of it for more than a thousand years!
Yannick Amirault took over the vines from his grandfather 30 years ago, and today with his son Benoit works 12 hectares in Bourgeuil and 7 in Saint-Nicolas-de-Bourgeuil. The family are seriously talented in the cellar and not shy of trying new things.
Le Grand Clos opens with a richly peppered character on the nose, with spiced black bean and aromatics of red rose petals. The palate follows up with a broad substance, a rich bed of gripped tannins providing some structure, supporting an elegant frame of floral fruit, with fresh acidity. An impressive structure, with a long tannic finish.
This one is a great keeper for the cellar as well, to be consumed in the next 3 years.
