Côtes de Provence AOC, Château de Pampelonne, 2020

Wine Enthusiast: 88/100

In the 19th century, Jean-Antoine Falcon, an ancestor of the Gasquet family, served as a government treasurer. He built a “villa” in Pampelonne during this time. His eldest son, Adrien, later modernized the Pampelonne castle. In 1920, the Gasquet family decided to plant vines on two hectares of land, gradually expanding to 50 hectares. In 2014, Marie Pascaud, with an oenology degree and winemaking experience, took over. The estate benefits from mild, year-round temperatures and sandy soils, along with significant maritime influence, enhancing grape concentration during ripening.

The aroma presents a lively citrusy profile featuring hints of pomelo, grapefruit, and subtle herbal undertones. A touch of floral notes evokes peonies against a backdrop of red fruits, including strawberry and redcurrant. On the palate, it offers a dry experience, showcasing medium-plus acidity and a refreshing, juicy sensation with a silky texture enriched by lees. It’s lively and slightly peppery, with a prominent citrus presence intertwined with redcurrant notes, concluding with a floral aftertaste.

You can enjoy it as an aperitif alongside cold cuts or pair it with fish or even veal during a meal.
