Crafted by the historic Corsican house L.N. Mattei, founded in 1872 in Bastia, this traditional liqueur showcases one of the island’s most emblematic wild berries: the red myrtle. Once used for its medicinal properties by ancient civilizations, myrtle remains a symbol of Corsican maquis and identity. The berries are hand-harvested in the heart of the scrubland, then slowly macerated to extract their full aromatic potential.
This deep ruby-red liqueur reveals intense aromas of ripe berries, herbal undertones, and a subtle bitterness. On the palate, it’s velvety, round, and slightly tannic, offering flavours of candied fruit, dried herbs, and warm spice, with a long, elegant finish.
Best served chilled as a digestif, or poured over ice for a more refreshing experience. For a pairing rooted in Corsican tradition, enjoy with L’Exception du Maquis—a sheep’s milk cheese covered in herbs from the maquis.
