The feijoa is thought to have its origins in the highland regions encompassing Uruguay, southern Brazil, northern Argentina, and western Paraguay. Introduced to Europe in the 19th century, it has since been cultivated in various locations, including India, the Caribbean, and even Scotland.
Feijoas have a unique taste, often described as a blend of guava, pineapple, and strawberry, with a slightly gritty texture. The flavour is sweet and tangy.
Feijoas are best enjoyed fresh, simply cut in half, and scooped out with a spoon. You can also use them in smoothies, fruit salads, or even bake them into muffins.
