The hallmark of Morels is their distinctively conical and slender shape, embellished with a pattern reminiscent of a honeycomb. Consumed since antiquity, the Romans valued them as a condiment. During the Middle Age, they were already a highly sought-after mushroom. Today, morels continue to be a gourmet delicacy due to their rarity. The exceptional flavour of morels renders them an exceedingly desired ingredient among celebrated gourmet chefs.
Morilles offer a remarkable taste experience with a complex flavour profile. Their taste is strong and often described as earthy, nutty, and slightly smoky, with an underlying hint of umami.
Place the mushrooms in your freezer. To recapture all the flavours of porcini mushrooms, simply immerse the frozen mushrooms in salted boiling water. When it returns to a boil, cook for 5 minutes. Then, rinse them in cold water using a colander and drain them by placing them on a cloth. Save the cooking water to make your sauce.
Morels pair beautipiecey with poultry, beef and creamy sauces. Incorporate them into a risotto or sauté them with butter and fresh herbs for a delightful side dish.
