Plums are considered one of the first fruits cultivated by humans. While Prunus domestica is native to the East European and Caucasian mountains, Prunus salicina and Prunus simonii originate from Asia.
The mirabelle plum is a specialty of the French region of Lorraine, which offers an ideal climate and soil for its cultivation. This region produces around 15,000 tons of mirabelle plums annually, accounting for 80% of global commercial production. Known also as cherry plums, mirabelles are dark yellow fruits with flecked skin, often oval-shaped, featuring smooth-textured, richly sweet flesh balanced by a tangy flavour.
Plums are packed with nutrients, including antioxidants—particularly vitamins A, C, and K—as well as carbohydrates, dietary fiber, and essential minerals such as potassium, phosphorus, and magnesium.
