Awarded Best Territorial Cheese at the British Cheese Awards in 2024 and Gold at the Global Cheese Awards in the same year.
Crafted in Leicestershire, this Aged Rutland Red from Long Clawson Dairy is the UK’s only traditional cloth-bound Red Leicester. Made using pasteurised cow’s milk and matured for up to 6 months, it develops a deep, vibrant annatto-orange paste protected by a natural cloth-bound rind. On the palate, it delivers a rich, buttery sweetness complemented by a distinct flakiness, subtle caramel notes, and a satisfyingly complex finish.
Founded in 1911, Long Clawson Dairy remains a farmer-owned cooperative supplied by local farms across Leicestershire, Nottinghamshire, and Derbyshire. Using time-honoured techniques, their master cheesemakers age Rutland Red in traditional cloth, allowing the cheese to breathe and mature into its award-winning flavor profile.
Enjoy it on a cheeseboard alongside crusty sourdough, red onion marmalade, crisp apples, or roasted pecans. It also melts beautifully into gourmet mac and cheese or fondue, and elevates toasted sandwiches. Aged Rutland Red pairs exceptionally well with a pint of traditional English ale, a rich port, or a robust red wine such as a Cabernet Sauvignon.
