It is to be enjoyed within 7 years from harvest.
Located at the southern tip of Burgundy’s wine-producing region, the famous Château de Varennes stands in Quincie en Beaujolais, just north of Lyon. This 11th-century castle has seen varied fortunes, from modest beginnings under the Villion family in the 13th century to a period of grandeur during the Lords of Beaujeu in the 14th century. Since 1809, the Charveriat family has owned and cultivated the estate’s vineyards. In line with the Beaujolais region, the Gamay grape thrives here, particularly in granite and silica-based terroirs, showcasing its subtle expressions.
Vinified using the traditionnal Burgundy method from grapes harvested on the vineyard best plots, 1809 cuvee is then aged in oak barrels for more than ten months. Ruby in colour, its nose opens on red fruits and roasted aromas. On the palate. it is characterized by an intense candied morello cherries flavour. Its tine tannins ensure an optimal conservation of around 7 years.
