Bleu de Gex, also known as Bleu du Haut-Jura, hails from the rugged Jura mountains near the Swiss border. This unique blue cheese features a natural rind dusted with powdery white and gray molds, while its moist, butter-colored interior is laced with striking blue-gray veins.
The nose reveals a nutty aroma reminiscent of roasted peanuts, inviting you to experience its rich and creamy semi-soft texture. Unlike many blue cheeses that can be sharp or overpowering, Bleu de Gex is mild, subtle, and silky-smooth, melting delightfully on the palate.
This cheese pairs wonderfully with autumn fruits like figs, apples, and pears. For wine pairing, choose a fortified dessert wine that is elegant and not overly sweet, to complement but not overpower the cheese’s nuanced flavours.
Store Bleu de Gex in its packaging in the refrigerator for up to 3-4 weeks to preserve its delicate qualities.
Wine Pairing:
Red wines (Banyuls)
White wines (Sauternes, Montbazillac, Jurançon)

Creamy texture, mild taste which good for cheese beginners.
Nicolas Guyon –
Bleu de Gex is okay. The texture is nice and creamy, but the flavor is somewhat bland compared to other blue cheeses.
Brice –
Mild
Paul C –
Rather a rubbery texture and a not very distinctive flavour. This is far from my favourite blue cheese.
