Traditionally, islanders relied on cheesemaking to preserve surplus summer milk in remote Scottish regions. Hard ‘farmhouse’ cheese became a staple due to its longer shelf life. The Reade family began crafting cheese in the 1980s. This self-taught venture evolved into their core family business, centered on the only dairy farm on the Isle of Mull, Sgriob-ruadh, near Tobermory, producing exceptional Scottish Cheddar.
Isle of Mull is a moist cheddar characterized by fruity notes and a delightful hint of alcohol. This cheese is crafted from the milk of picturesque cows that graze on summer grass and enjoy grain husks sourced from the Tobermory whisky distillery.
Ideal to pair with a Merlot red wine, a whisky or a smoky beer.
Store in the refrigerator and protect with cheese paper.
