Cheese Type: Fresh Cheese
Manouri is a traditional soft white whey cheese made from sheep’s and goat’s milk. It is a Protected Destination of Origin (P.D.O.) cheese, produced in Sohos, Thessaloniki, Greece, following the same traditional recipe for over a century by Proikas Dairy in Thessaloniki.
Close to Feta in taste but less salty, Manouri is a creamy and mild cheese with a texture reminding of a light cheesecake. It is sometimes characterized as having a milky, slightly citrusy flavour. This cheese is used in many greek dishes such as spanakopita (check out the recipe here) or by itself drizzled with honey for a healthy treat.
Manouri can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge for at least a couple of weeks.
Wine Pairing:
Fresh young white wines (Sauvignon, Chenin, Vermentino)
Sparkling wines (Champagne, Cava, Prosecco)

This smooth and milky cheese makes a great after-meal dessert with honey, nuts and fresh or dried fruit.

A nice and mild cheese. It’s fresh and young and mild. It’s the step before feta cheese, so it’s still a little firm and crumbly, but softer overall than feta. We baked it with honey and it was delicious!
